Hey,  I know that Mexico is getting a bad rap right now from all of the publicity of drug violence and boarder wars that are going on right now.  There are so many stories and rumors that are being circulated right now and in the news.

The big question:  How safe is Mexico?

It is true that  there are certain areas of Mexico that are having issues.   The main problem areas are thousands of miles away from the resort areas in Cabo San Lucas or in the Riviera Maya.   The tourist areas in Mexico are one of the safest areas to travel in all of Mexico!   I met a couple from  Northern Mexico, who actually were on their honeymoon in the Riviera Maya because they said it gave them some peace and safety to enjoy themselves.

Use Common Sense in Large Cities:

Of course, Large cities like Cancun that have about 1 million people are like all large cities.  You always want to use discretion.  Follow your travel professional’s and concierge’s guidance as to which areas are safe for shopping, getting a bite to eat, or even going to the clubs.  Common Sense is the key to staying safe in every part of the world, just like if you were visiting New York, or Chicago, London or Paris.

Here are some important facts about traveling to Mexico’s Tourist areas.

• Not one American tourist or tourist of any nationality has been killed as a result of drug-gang activity in any Mexican tourism destination.  22.6 million people have visited Mexico in the past 12 months.
• No Travel Professional (that cares about their business and reputation) would risk their business to send anyone to an area where there would be any danger.
• Work with a travel professional who will make sure you stay at a resort with a good reputation for quality and security.
• More people will visit Mexico before noon today than visit London in a year.
• Japanese travelers, (some of the most cautious in the world) visiting Mexico is up 27%.
• You have a 1.3% chance of being a victim of a crime in Mexico vs. an 8% chance in U.S
• Mexico ranks 39^th in total crime in the world where as the US ranks 8^th.

While I was in Mexico, I was at the beautiful Eldorado Royale all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya Mexico.   I sent my husband, Lou, out to video couples at Eldorado Royale to see how people were enjoying their visit at Eldorado and in Mexico.     These are not edited and I apologize for some of the sound quality where it got a little windy.
